CST 300 - Week 6

 Hey everyone,

We are back with yet another update of my online journey. 

Part 1: Help Your Teammates to Develop Capstone Ideas

So this week was really fun! We, a a team, thought of potential Capstone ideas for our future project. Some of the ones that stood out to me were:

- Smart recipe recommender: I really like cooking, although I am not very good at it. This product would recommend recipes based on the ingredients we have available to us at that time. 

- Language learning app: Although there are quite a few of these, we would have one with multiple languages and games. It would be something that is friendly for all age groups. I love learning new languages so I really enjoyed this idea. 

Part 2: Keep Up With Your Learning Journal

Moreover, we worked on our first draft of our ethics essay and reviewed our peers' essays as well. My peers had wrote really well and I learned quite a few new things that are ethical concerns out there in the world. We also made cover letters and resumes for future possible internships. I really enjoyed this because it made me realize my various skills, which I did not necessarily think would be of much use when I first developed them. When I sat and thought about what I have achieved in my life, I felt really proud. I was really excited because this was my first cover letter and resume I have worked on. The last thing we did this week was learn a little bit of Java. I have always been familiar with C++, so it was interesting and confusing to learn a new programming language. I will definitely need some practice but I will enjoy it!

The term is almost coming to an end and the final project is right around the corner. Hopefully we will have a chance to work on that this week. See you guys soon!

CST 334 - Week 4

Hey everyone!       This week, I learned about how operating systems manage memory, which is one of their most important jobs. One topic was free space management , where the system keeps track of memory or storage that isn’t being used. Two common methods are bitmaps (using bits to mark if memory is free or taken) and linked lists (connecting free memory blocks together). Each method has its pros and cons, like how much space they use or how fast they work.      I also studied paging , which splits memory into small chunks called pages. These pages are mapped to physical memory, keeping processes separate and organized. However, this mapping can slow things down because the computer has to translate addresses often. To make it faster, Translation Lookaside Buffers (TLBs) store recent translations in a small, quick cache. CST 370 - Week 1

 Hey everyone, This week, we learned several important topics that form the foundation of computer science and programming. We started with GitHub and practiced using manual commands like git init, git add, git commit, and git push to manage our code. This helped us understand version control and how to keep track of changes when working on projects, especially when collaborating with others. We were also introduced to algorithms and learned what they are—step-by-step methods for solving problems. One example we focused on was Euclid’s Algorithm for finding the greatest common divisor (GCD) of two numbers. It uses a simple but powerful idea: repeatedly replace the numbers with GCD(b, a % b) until the second number becomes zero.
