CST 499 - Week 2

 Hey everyone,

This week felt like a turning point in my journey into cybersecurity. Instead of just learning concepts, I started connecting technical skills with real-world career preparation. I completed three major modules: Automate Cybersecurity Tasks with Python, Prepare for Cybersecurity Jobs, and Accelerate Your Job Search with AI. Each one pushed me a step closer to being job-ready.

One of my biggest accomplishments this week was finishing the Python automation module. I spent time writing scripts that can help analyze logs and identify unusual activity. While these were guided exercises, I made sure to understand how each script works and how it could be applied in real cybersecurity scenarios. This was my personal contribution—actually doing the hands-on work and not just watching or reading. It gave me a clearer picture of how automation plays a role in security operations.

I also focused on career preparation. In the Prepare for Cybersecurity Jobs module, I worked on improving my resume and thinking more strategically about how to present my skills. I started aligning what I’ve learned with what employers are actually looking for. Then, in the AI-focused module, I explored how tools can help me write better resumes, draft cover letters, and prepare for interviews more efficiently. This felt especially useful because it showed me how to stand out without feeling overwhelmed.

Looking ahead to next week, I want to shift from guided learning to building something on my own. My plan is to create a small cybersecurity project—most likely a Python-based log analyzer or a simple intrusion detection script. I also plan to set up a GitHub repository so I can start showcasing my work. On top of that, I want to continue refining my resume and begin applying for entry-level roles or internships. Practicing technical interview questions is also on my list.

That said, I am facing a couple of challenges. The biggest one is confidence—especially when it comes to applying Python skills outside of structured lessons. It’s one thing to follow along, but another to build something from scratch. I’m also still figuring out which roles best match my current skill level, which can make the job search feel a bit unclear. I don’t necessarily need direct help right now, but feedback on project ideas or my resume would definitely be valuable.

Overall, this week was productive and motivating. I’m starting to see how everything connects—technical skills, career preparation, and using the right tools to move forward. Now it’s about taking that next step and building something on my own.
