CST 499 - Week 3

 Hey everyone!

This week marked an important shift in my cybersecurity journey. I officially completed my cybersecurity certificate, which felt like a major achievement after all the time spent learning concepts like network security, threat detection, and risk management. Finishing the course gave me a solid foundation, but more importantly, it pushed me to start applying those skills in a practical way.

After completing the certification, I began working on my project. My main focus this week was setting everything up and getting organized before diving into development. I installed and configured my working environment, including a virtual machine and the tools I’ll need for testing and analysis. I also took time to clearly define what my project will focus on, choosing a specific cybersecurity problem to explore rather than keeping things too broad.

In terms of my personal contributions, I handled the initial setup, conducted research on relevant threats and vulnerabilities, and started outlining how the project will be structured. I also began documenting my approach so I have a clear plan moving forward. Even though this stage was more about preparation, it was an important step in making sure the project has a strong direction.

Next week, I plan to move into the development phase. I want to start building the core components of the project and run some basic tests to see how everything works in practice. I’ll also continue researching potential vulnerabilities and think about ways to address them within my project. As I make progress, I plan to keep refining my design and documenting everything I do. I also want to start my last and final certification of Fast.ai. i need to start planning on what I want to do as a project as well.

One challenge I’m currently facing is narrowing down the scope of the project. There are a lot of possible directions I could take, and I want to make sure I stay focused on something realistic and manageable. I’ve also had some minor issues with configuring certain tools, which slowed me down a bit. I think some feedback from the instructor on my project idea and tool selection would be helpful at this stage.

Overall, this week felt like a transition from learning to doing. Completing the certification was a big milestone, and starting the project made things feel more real. I’m looking forward to building on this progress next week.
